Solar Ireland Welcomes Confirmation That SEAI Rooftop Solar Grant Will Remain at €1,800 for 2026
Solar Ireland warmly welcomes today’s announcement by Minister for Climate, Energy and the Environment, Darragh O’Brien, confirming that SEAI grants for domestic rooftop solar will remain at €1,800 for 2026 under the Microgeneration Support Scheme.
This decision directly delivers on one of Solar Ireland’s key Budget 2026 recommendations: to prevent the planned reduction in rooftop solar supports and keep solar accessible for households, including those most impacted by rising energy costs.
“This is simple, sensible and hugely positive,” said Ronan Power, CEO of Solar Ireland. “Keeping the grant at €1,800 for 2026 will help thousands more families cut their energy bills and their emissions, while ensuring installations stay within SEAI’s strong regulatory and quality framework. It’s a decision that supports both households and the wider clean-energy transition.”
Rooftop solar remains a cornerstone of Ireland’s progress on clean energy. With more than 800 MW now installed on homes and businesses nationwide, domestic solar continues to grow rapidly and consistently deliver savings, resilience and climate benefits.
Maintaining the current grant level for 2026 will:
- Support families – including those at risk of energy poverty – to participate in the clean-energy transition.
- Keep installations within SEAI’s high-quality, monitored and regulated system.
- Provide certainty for installers and small businesses across the country.
- Sustain the momentum that has made solar energy the fastest-growing renewable sector in Ireland.
Solar Ireland also acknowledges the wider context of Budget 2026, which included significant new investment in grid infrastructure and increased SEAI capital funding for residential and community energy upgrades.
“Today’s announcement shows that Government and SEAI are committed to a fair and accessible energy transition,” Power added. “This certainty for 2026 will keep solar affordable for households and maintain strong oversight across the industry. We look forward to continuing to work with the Minister and SEAI as plans for 2027 and beyond take shape.”
