Solar Ireland Budget 2026: Our Policy Priorities for a Just, Resilient Energy Future
As we prepare for a pivotal national budget, Solar Ireland has submitted a clear and timely message to government: solar energy is not just a climate solution — it’s a social and economic one too. Our Budget 2026 submission outlines three essential asks that, together, can unlock clean energy, protect households, and secure Ireland’s compliance with its EU obligations.

What We're Asking For
1. Freeze rooftop solar grant reductions
Protect access to clean energy for households, especially those experiencing fuel poverty. Prevent grant cuts from pushing solar out of reach for lower-income families and out of the SEAI’s quality-assured system.
2. Simplify tax rules for solar subcontractors
Reform the Relevant Contracts Tax (RCT) system to remove barriers for skilled, non-resident contractors. Without this, Ireland risks delays to solar delivery and persistent skills shortages.
3. Invest €7 billion in Ireland’s electricity grid
Deliver the Programme for Government’s €2.5bn commitment and allocate a further €4.5bn to 2030. Grid investment is essential to avoid climate fines, meet energy demand, and scale renewables.
We’re turning each of these into a weekly campaign, kicking off September 9th. Follow us, and help spread the word: Solar Ireland LinkedIn
