Ronan Power on WLR FM: Ireland Must Remove Renewable Energy Bottlenecks
This week, Ronan Power joined WLR FM to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing Ireland’s renewable energy transition.
The interview focused on the need to remove avoidable bottlenecks across planning and grid delivery as Ireland works towards its climate and energy targets.
Ronan highlighted the importance of greater consistency across planning processes, alongside faster and more coordinated approaches to grid delivery and infrastructure upgrades.
A key part of the discussion centred on Solar Ireland’s call for a dedicated renewable energy “clearing house” model — bringing together Government departments, regulators, system operators and industry representatives to identify and resolve delivery challenges more efficiently.
The interview also explored the role rooftop solar can play in improving household affordability and energy resilience, with Solar Ireland continuing to call for increased residential solar grants to help make installations more accessible to more families across Ireland.
With Ireland now reaching over 2.5 GW of installed solar capacity, the conversation reinforced an important point: the ambition is there. The focus now must be on delivery.
