solar panels on the horizon

At Solar Ireland, our members are not only delivering clean energy – they’re building a future where environmental stewardship, community benefit, and ethical business practices are central to every project. Power Capital Renewable Energy’s newly published 2025 ESG Impact Report is a clear example of what this looks like in action.

Leading with Purpose

From their early days as an independent power producer in 2011 to their current 5GW+ pipeline, Power Capital has embedded ESG into every stage of the solar lifecycle, from design and construction through to operation and decommissioning. Their mission is simple yet powerful: to drive a sustainable future by harnessing the power of the sun.

Environmental Action: From Carbon to Conservation

In 2024, Power Capital’s solar farms delivered up to 7% of Ireland’s electricity at peak times, avoiding more than 3.2 million tonnes of CO2 over project lifetimes. But their environmental work goes further:

  • Biodiversity leadership: joining the All-Ireland Pollinator Plan, implementing biodiversity net gain measures, planting over 60,000 native trees and 21km of hedgerows, and creating pollinator corridors.
  • Adaptable stewardship: revising planting practices to ensure only native, locally appropriate species are used.
  • Supply chain sustainability: ensuring solar modules are ethically sourced, with zero tolerance for forced labour.

Social Value: Investing in People and Communities

Power Capital’s Community Benefit Fund will deliver over €2.5 million in the next five years to projects across 10+ counties. Initiatives include:

  • STEAM and sustainability programmes in schools.
  • Support for female retention in sport and inclusivity in local clubs.
  • Partnerships to provide 24/7 wellbeing support for all site contractors.

Governance: Setting a High Bar

Governance at Power Capital includes robust supply chain traceability, ISO-aligned environmental and safety management, and ambitious diversity targets, with women making up 42% of the leadership team.

Why It Matters for Ireland’s Solar Future

Power Capital’s work mirrors the priorities outlined in Scale of Solar 2025: scaling responsibly, enhancing biodiversity, and creating real local benefit. It’s proof that solar can deliver far more than electricity — it can power climate progress, restore nature, and strengthen communities.
