Solar Ireland member Ohk Energy is delivering a large-scale on-site solar, storage and resilience system for Dexcom’s manufacturing facility in Athenry, Co. Galway, marking a significant development in industrial energy infrastructure in Ireland.

The project combines 1.25 MW of rooftop solar PV, a 6 MW / 6 MWh battery energy storage system, and backup generation, creating a fully integrated 11.25 MW on-site energy system designed to support operational continuity and energy resilience.

Once operational, the system is expected to supply approximately 30% of Dexcom’s daytime electricity demand, while ensuring continued operation during grid disruptions. The installation also has the potential to support grid stability through participation in system services.

The project represents a multi-million euro investment and reflects a growing trend among large energy users to integrate on-site renewable generation and storage to manage costs, reduce emissions and enhance energy security.

The next phase of the project is currently underway, with full completion expected in July 2026.
