Member News: Early vegetation planning is a key factor in solar project delivery
Solar Ireland member Solar Farm Solutions has highlighted the importance of early and coordinated vegetation management in supporting the timely delivery of solar projects across Ireland.
As solar development accelerates, vegetation clearance, planting and perimeter fencing are emerging as critical elements that can influence project timelines, planning outcomes and compliance. In particular, site preparation works such as hedgerow cutting must be carefully scheduled outside the bird nesting season, typically between March and August, to avoid delays.
The sequencing of works is also important. Completing landscape mitigation planting ahead of fencing installation can reduce rework, avoid access constraints and improve overall project efficiency. Similarly, early planning for plant supply is required to align with the relatively short planting season, typically running from autumn through early spring.
According to Solar Farm Solutions, a more integrated approach to vegetation and site preparation can support more efficient project delivery, while also contributing to improved biodiversity outcomes and stronger engagement with local communities during the planning process.
As the sector continues to scale, these considerations are becoming increasingly relevant in ensuring projects move from planning through to construction without unnecessary delays.
