What the role involves
You’ll manage the full project lifecycle for HV/MV grid connection and substation works, from design and procurement to construction, commissioning, and handover.

This includes planning schedules and budgets, overseeing technical design, managing subcontractors, and ensuring all work meets ESB standards, national regulations, and industry codes.

You’ll also provide hands-on technical oversight across substations (10kV/20kV/38kV), protection schemes, switchgear, transformers, SCADA, and control systems.

The role involves close coordination with ESB Networks, renewable developers, contractors, and internal teams to secure grid approvals and keep projects moving on time and within budget.

Key focus areas:
✅ Project planning, budgeting, scheduling, risk and quality management
✅ Technical review of electrical designs, SLDs, protection settings, and equipment specs
✅ Procurement of HV/MV equipment and subcontracted services
✅ Site support for commissioning, FAT/SAT testing, troubleshooting, and energization
✅ Stakeholder and contractor management, progress reporting, and regulatory coordination
✅ Ensuring high standards in health, safety, quality, and compliance
✅ Managing project financials, variations, claims, and cash-flow

What we’re looking for:
✅ Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a related field (Master’s or Chartered Engineer is a plus)
✅ Project management certification such as PMP, PRINCE2, or APM preferred
✅ Strong knowledge of HV/MV substations, protection systems, grid integration, and EPC delivery
✅ Proficiency with scheduling tools like MS Project or Primavera
✅ 10+ years’ experience in HV/MV grid or substation projects, with at least 5 years in a project management role
✅ Proven background delivering grid connections or substation EPC projects in wind, solar, or BESS
